Who is this workshop for?
All our workshops are open to kinship carers living in England and Wales. A kinship carer is someone who has stepped in to raise a child or children when their parents can’t.
This workshop might be helpful for new kinship carers who are thinking about their options. Or kinship carers who have been caring for a while and want to understand more about their rights.
What will be covered?
The workshop will include information about:
- the challenges and rewards of being a kinship carer
- understanding different kinship care arrangements
- getting practical help for your family
- financial support
- next steps
After the workshop you will receive a handout and the presentation slides via email along with a feedback survey.
Important – how to join the workshop
All workshops will be held online using a free platform called Zoom. Please note that numbers are limited for each session to around 12-15 people to allow you to meet other kinship carers.
You can access Zoom through a desktop computer, laptop, tablet or even your phone. You may need to download Zoom before you join, please factor in time to do that. The best experience will be through a computer or laptop. Watch a video on how to join a Zoom meeting.
Please make sure you:
- sign in to Zoom before joining the workshop
- click on the Zoom link in the email we sent you
- make sure you join on time – late joiners might not be admitted after 15 minutes
- have a pen / pencil and paper to make notes
About Naomi:
Naomi is an Advice Workshop Facilitator at Kinship. She has a background in Special Educational Needs and before joining Kinship she worked for another charity offering advice and workshops for vulnerable families in her local area. Naomi says: “When you join a workshop with me it will feel like you are being listened to, you are not alone and your questions are answered.”
About Amy:
Amy is an Advice Workshop Facilitator at Kinship. She has worked with children, young people and parents/carers for the last twenty years. Supporting people through challenges, to manage their lives in the best way they can, is her passion. She has particular expertise in education, SEND services, early help, and mental health and wellbeing of children and adults. Amy says: “Joining a Kinship workshop with me will give you the opportunity to access essential information in an open environment which promotes peer support, all questions and discussions are welcome.”
