Overview of the EHCP and SEND process workshop

Who is this workshop for?
This workshop is open to kinship carers living in England. A kinship carer is someone who has stepped in to raise a child or children when their parents can’t.
The workshop might be helpful for kinship carers looking for support for children and young people with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND).
What will be covered?
The workshop will include information about:
- the processes for accessing support available for children and young people with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND)
- the Education, Health and Care plan (EHCP) process and how this links to support
- the Virtual School and how it relates to children and young people with SEND
After the workshop you will receive a handout and the presentation slides via email along with a feedback survey.
Please note that Council for Disabled Children deliver this workshop. They have worked with Kinship and kinship carers to develop this workshop, and are contracted for this workshop.

Important – how to join the workshop
All workshops will be held online using a free platform called Zoom. Please note that numbers are limited for each session to around 12-15 people to allow you to meet other kinship carers.
You can access Zoom through a desktop computer, laptop, tablet or even your phone. You may need to download Zoom before you join, please factor in time to do that. The best experience will be through a computer or laptop. Watch a video on how to join a Zoom meeting.
Please make sure you:
- sign in to Zoom before joining the workshop
- click on the Zoom link in the email we sent you
- make sure you join on time – late joiners might not be admitted after 15 minutes
- have a pen / pencil and paper to make notes
About Natasha:
Natasha is a Health and Social Care Programme Officer at Council for Disabled Children. She has a degree in Global Health and Social Medicine, and a postgraduate degree in Population Health Science. She has previously worked as a teaching assistant for children with additional needs in a primary school. Natasha’s experience has a broad focus within public health across various sectors, including education. At Council for Disabled Children, she currently works on the development of projects across health and social care, as well as analysing available provision for Looked After Children or children at risk of significant family breakdown. Natasha is enthusiastic about combining her experiences across multiple sectors to improve outcomes for children and young people.
About Lizzie:
Lizzie is a Social Care Programme Officer at Council for Disabled Children. She has a BA degree in Human Geography. She has previously worked for a community health and wellbeing charity and volunteered as a classroom assistant for a primary school for children with physical disabilities. At Council for Disabled Children, she is currently working on projects and trainings focused on short breaks, the Local Offer and the legal framework related to this. Lizzie uses her personal experience of growing up with a disabled sister to inform the work she does at Council for Disabled Children.
